Recently, CRRC Zhuzhou successfully won the bid for the bid section one of the Phase II offshore wind power project at the South U1 site in Haiwei Peninsula, Shandong, China, with a winning capacity of 229.5MW, a total of 27 sets of 8.5MWD230 units, and a total order amount of 757 million RMB. This project marks a historic breakthrough and a new milestone reached in the wind energy industry of CRRC, which has since opened a new journey of offshore and onshore!
The winning 8.5MWD230 offshore unit adopts a series of advanced technologies and cost-optimal design concepts such as regional customized blade design, lightweight semi-direct drive structure, highly fault-tolerant electrical system, box-top placement, integrated lifting, and intelligent operation and maintenance.
The blade shape design, material selection and structural details design were optimized and innovated to ensure both excellent aerodynamic performance and high reliability and cost performance, with the impeller diameter reaching 230m and wind sweeping area of about 41,500 square meters, equivalent to about 5.8 standard soccer fields, according to the assessment, the blade power generation performance is at a superior level among blades above 100m at home and abroad.
The layout of the nacelle of this unit is simple, with full consideration of ergonomic design, and the electrical systems are arranged in the nacelle, which can improve the commissioning and operation efficiency. This platform-designed unit not only has high reliability and power generation performance, but also has good maintainability.
According to the calculation, under the rated wind speed, the unit can generate 18 degrees of electricity per revolution, and a single unit can output about 26 million degrees of clean electricity per year. According to the normal electricity consumption of ordinary families, the winning project will generate 700 million kWh of clean electricity per year, which can meet the electricity demand of about 360,000 households, reduce coal consumption by 205,000 tons and carbon dioxide emission by 520,000 tons, effectively reduce carbon emission, guarantee the increasing demand of electricity for residents, help the green development of regional economy.
In 2020, CRRC proposed to make wind power industry an important growth pole other than rail transportation, and CRRC Zhuzhou Institute is a core subsidiary of CRRC and one of the earliest enterprises to enter the wind power industry. As a representative of central enterprises in China's wind power equipment field, the development of offshore wind power industry is a major strategic initiative of CRRC Zhuzhou Institute to implement the double carbon strategy, serve the development needs of the industry, and make the wind power industry bigger and stronger, which is also a central enterprise always practicing the national strategy.
In 2021, based on the profound cooperation foundation and giving full play to the technical advantages of both sides, CRRC and NIT Group joined hands to develop the 10MW offshore prototype, The unit is a regional customized offshore wind turbine carefully developed based on modular design and advanced R&D platform with the goal of optimal power cost for the whole life cycle of the project. The power level is compatible downward to 8MW and expandable upward to 12MW. In the future, based on the prototype platform, the power level can be further expanded upward to 15MW and the wind turbine diameter can be extended to 260m.
