2021 Global Offshore Wind Report released
The 6.1 GW of new offshore wind power installed worldwide in 2020 is slightly lower than the 6.24 GW installed in 2019, but GWEC expects 2021 to be a record year for global offshore wind installations.
China achieved more than 3 GW of offshore wind additions to the grid in 2020, making it the world's largest offshore wind market for the third consecutive year. The European market maintains steady growth, with the Netherlands ranking second globally with nearly 1.5 GW of new installations and Belgium in third place (706 MW).
The report predicts that 235 GW of new offshore wind power will be installed worldwide over the next ten years under existing wind policies, an increase equivalent to seven times the existing offshore wind power installations. Compared to last year's report, this forecast has been revised upwards by 15%.
