How to deal with extreme weather photovoltaic power plants

Severe weather phenomena occur frequently in summer. Into July, respectively, there were strong typhoons, tornadoes and other strong convective weather phenomena as well as the recent arrival of the summer heat, many areas of high temperature has appeared a certain degree of extremity. That photovoltaic power station in the encounter this extreme weather should be how to deal with it?
1.High temperature
The high temperature in summer may cause the inverter to suffer from "heat stroke". When the inverter is exposed to high temperatures, the internal temperature of the inverter can quickly rise to over 80℃. If there is no good heat dissipation, ventilation or sun protection measures, the high temperature will cause the inverter to have derating output problems, which will directly affect the power station's power generation. If the temperature continues to rise beyond the inverter's normal operating temperature range, it will also trigger an alarm shutdown of the inverter. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly maintain the inverter's sun protection device and heat dissipation device, clean the dust net and replace the aging parts in time.
Entering the summer, with the rapid rise in temperature, power station power generation has not been ushered in the peak power generation period as expected with the increase in light hours. This is because of the characteristics of the PV module itself, the module as the temperature rises, power generation will continue to decline. In summer, the temperature coefficient of PV modules is around -0.4%, which means that for every 1℃ rise in module temperature, the output power will be lost by about 0.4%. Extreme high temperatures not only bring about a loss of power generation revenue, but also may accelerate the aging of the encapsulation materials of the module, power station cables, etc., affecting the life of the power station.

2.Rainstorms
For sloping roofs, you may not need to worry too much. But PV modules installed in flat-roofed houses, you need to pay attention to. It is best to design and install PV modules before the need to deal with good drainage system, so as to avoid heavy rainfall due to poor drainage, components of the low places were soaked in rainwater.
For power stations that have already been installed, additional drainage systems should be built as appropriate. If heavy rainfall persists, it may also cause flooding in the power station. At this time, it is necessary to carry out flood control work in accordance with the flood control emergency plan. Both to pay attention to the power station itself outside the drainage, but also pay close attention to the PV array due to foundation settlement, collapse, resulting in the array deformation problem, to prevent damage to the components. Inverters, cables and other equipment that have been soaked in water for a long time are prone to poor insulation and other failures, which can lead to electrocution accidents if they are touched. If you are unfortunate enough to be soaked, you need to cut off the power supply in time, and after the rainfall is over, tell the operation and maintenance personnel to carry out a comprehensive inspection of the power station. After the rainfall is over, tell the operation and maintenance personnel to conduct a comprehensive check of the power station, and then resume power generation after confirming that there is no error.
3.Lightning
Extreme thunderstorms may cause damage to poorly grounded power station equipment due to lightning strikes, therefore, every year, in addition to regular lightning protection testing of power stations, but also before the arrival of the thunderstorm season, grounding resistance testing of equipment to complete the elimination of hidden lightning hazards. The most effective way to prevent lightning strikes and reduce damage is to install lightning arrester, and metal parts of electrical equipment should be reliably connected to the earth.
4.Other strong convective weather
Strong winds, hail, tornadoes and other strong convective weather is prone to occur, this weather phenomenon in a short period of time amazing destructive force, to the power station to bring the impact should not be underestimated. Therefore, before the arrival of extreme weather, not only to pay attention to the power station drainage system, but also to check whether the component installation is stable, pay close attention to the PV module foundation settlement caused by array deformation and whether the component is damaged and other issues, if the unfortunate damage, to save the damaged components and contact the project company, through the corresponding detection methods, but the appearance of the components of the impact of the intact hidden cracks in the situation of the investigation, in order to evaluate the performance of equipment. The performance of the equipment can be evaluated. For protection against hail, choosing the right manufacturer is an effective way to minimize losses. Regular manufacturers have strict control over the quality of the components that leave the factory, and they need to pass the hail test before leaving the factory, so it is very necessary to choose a regular manufacturer.

A high-performance power plant not only needs to be designed correctly and constructed with excellent quality, but also requires a high level of production, operation and maintenance, and other post-production services. Correct operation and maintenance can not only improve power generation, but also improve the equipment and plant life. The items and contents of the usual inspections can be referred to as follows:

1.Check whether the counterweight of the power station meets the requirements.
If the counterweight of the power station is not enough, and use sandbags and so on to increase the counterweight of the power station. For can not increase the counterweight and counterweight limited power station, can be taken with wire rope, etc. on the component bracket bundling and building structure rivets fixed and other ways to increase the fixed force. Add windproof tie rods and fasten them to prevent the PV bracket from twisting with the wind, and ground power stations should tamp the ground anchors on both sides of the array.
2.Regularly check the surface cleanliness of PV modules, and clean up in time if any serious dust, bird droppings or weeds are found to be obscuring the surface. The primary problem that affects the power generation of PV power station is the cleanliness of the surface of the module, especially in the area where there is less rainfall and more wind and sand, the impact of dust and shade on the annual power generation is generally around 5%~10%.
3.To regularly check the photovoltaic power generation array, to ensure that each piece of photovoltaic module cover glass is not broken, the border is intact. Fixed pressure blocks and bolts are tight, the junction box temperature rise is normal, no bulging, no heat discoloration no melting deformation, burning and other issues, the junction box bypass diode work and temperature rise is normal. For broken and faulty components should be replaced in time to avoid causing greater failure and harm.
Regularly check the PV string connector wiring contact is good, power station internal cables, junction boxes, plugs, various switches, fuses (tubes) without abnormal temperature rise. Circuit cable is intact, no short-circuit break phenomenon, cable insulation without cracking, damage and aging phenomenon of pulverization, rodent infested areas should pay special attention to the bare ground outside the cable is not gnawed and damaged by rats. PV module string MC4 connecting joints at the temperature rise is normal, plug connector no erosion marks, there is no poor contact and other issues.

4.Regularly check the operating conditions of the inverter, convergence box, switchgear and other equipment to ensure that the equipment operates normally, with no unusual temperature rise and noise, the cooling fan operates normally, and there is no serious accumulation of dust in the ventilation filter and fan blades. Check whether the circuit breakers in the convergence box and DC cabinet are normal, and whether the wiring is loose, hot and discolored. Check whether the wiring of the input terminal of the string inverter is hot or not. Observe the automatic start/stop status of the inverter, whether the operating parameters of the inverter are set correctly, and whether the display and sound of the inverter operating indicator are normal.
5.Regularly check whether the PV array foundation, bracket is intact, and whether there is any looseness and breakage of the buckles and pressure blocks. Ensure that the concrete foundation is intact, the concrete foundation is not pulverized, sinking and other phenomena, and the steel bracket and foundation are not seriously corroded. When encountering gusty weather warnings, the battery panels and the bracket should be inspected and maintained to ensure the safety and stability of the array. All reinforcement bolts are tight, no rusting, shedding and loosening phenomenon; PV module fixing pressure blocks or bolts are intact, no loosening phenomenon, and there is no serious rusting and corrosion problem in the underground part of the metal spiral piles or metal directly buried piles.
6.All cables and connectors, inverters, convergence boxes, distribution boxes and other electrical waterproof sealing should be checked after heavy rainfall weather to see if they are good, with or without water leakage and flood hazards, etc., to find and count the disaster situation and maintain them in time. The surface of the battery panel should be checked with focus after the hailstorm, and the broken components should be replaced in time.
7.Regularly monitor the operating status of components and component strings, and observe the normal working voltage on the DC side of the inverter and the current on each DC branch, so as to ensure that the output power is normal. Regular sampling or full inspection of PV module IV output characteristics, whether there are hot spots, hidden cracks, internal welding wires with or without discoloration and broken wires and other problems, repair or replace faulty components.
